Today, I'm sharing some very basic but very useful tips. It's all about your beauty essentials.
As the picture above suggests, we're not even going to talk about make-up products or face products here.
I thought we'd talk about useful tools that every girly-girl/beauty girl should have.

Granted that no girl's vanity or kit is the same, there are basic tools that would help beauty girls commit in full to their beauty regime.
The products I've mentioned are the more "vain" or shall I say committed versions of these basics.
1. COTTON PADS
COTTON is a must-have! I use it to apply my toner or do my nails.
The starter version is the cotton rolls. They retail for less than P10.
I find that difficult to work with as I got used to the convenience of just grabbing a handful of pre-formed cotton balls/pads instead of pulling out pieces from the roll.
The middle version is the cotton balls. Choose denser versions. Although this costs a bit more than the softer ones. For nails, I use cotton balls when I have it. But for the face, I have to use cotton pads.
The luxe version is the cotton pads or cotton rounds (depending on the shape).
There's the cheaper cotton pads from Belle Purity (P25.35). It's 100% pure cotton and has 40 square pads in a bag.
The bag is resealable or zip-locked. This is important because you want to keep your pads in the most sanitary condition as possible.
There's also the higher end cotton rounds from Cleene. This one has a soft side and an abrasive side. Plus, the sides are sewn together to prevent it from falling apart when used.
My favorite one is the Multi-Purpose CUDDLES cotton rounds (P55.00 ++). It is 100% cotton (aren't they all?) and has 80 cotton rounds in one bag.
I love that CUDDLES care about proper packaging.
This is the only drug store/affordable cotton rounds I've seen where not only does it come in a resealable bag, but there's a round plastic hard film at the very top.
It makes sure that there's minimal amount of dirt that came into contact with the cotton rounds.
Sometimes I'd keep this film in the bag after opening. Most time, I'm too lazy to deal with it afterwards. At least, I was provided with the option to do so.
Here's the face of the cotton round. It doesn't have an abrasive side, which I don't mind.
But if you're looking to get a bit of exfoliation while applying toner, go for Cleene.
I already exfoliate with my St. Yves Apricot Scrub so I don't extra exfoliate when toning.
The rounds are incredibly soft yet sturdy.
From this angle, you can see that the rounds are on the thick side to bring maximum softness.
The sides are not sewn together so will experience morphing if you pull too hard on the cotton round.
We know that you shouldn't be pulling too hard and should use cotton with a light hand.
Morphing aside, the unsewn sides lets you make two cotton rounds from one.
Just gently peel off the top part from the bottom part.
This is economical and convenient if you aren't using too much toner or if you want to give your eyes a DIY treatment.
For eye treatments, half the cotton round, soak both in cold milk, press onto eyes, sit for 10mins and dispose.
2. COTTON BUDS
Cotton bud or ear bud or cotton swab is also an important beauty tool.
I prefer the PAPER STEMMED for their stability (read: doesn't go bendy on me).
I also feel that paper stems gives better precision that the plastic stems.
Having said that, I use cotton buds so much that I had to resort to the P10 for 1 jar of plastic stemmed cotton buds.
I still use the paper stemmed buds for non-make-up related use.
I use my plastic stemmed buds to apply petroleum jelly on my lips, take moisturizer from my big tub (I will explain in future posts) or smudge eye make-up.
I'll show you my set-up for my cotton bud on my vanity around the holidays.
This is because the ceramic container I use for it is holiday themed.
I got it off a Japanese surplus store for cheaps so I'm not bothered.

Speaking of Japanese surplus store... I got this cute pink box of essentials from there too.
Let me just say that this is the cutest box ever!!!
It's P5 for one box. I got three of them to keep and give out to friends.
My box lives in my make-up bag (Ah, another future post!).
Without further ado, it's UNBOXING TIME!
The box slides open, which is pretty convenient when you're on-the-go and can't be bothered.
I've kept the plastic bag on there. But you can always take the goodies out.
So, let's take a look at these goodies.
The main item is this box is a set of these gorgeous PINK PAPER STEMMED Cotton Swabs.
OMG, you guys! It has everything I can ever ask for. Pink + Paper Stem!
I have never seen pink cotton on a cotton swab so I was truly in love with this item.
I was broke that day so only got 3 boxes . :(
But wait! There's more!!!
Underneath the Cotton Swabs are these cute cotton pads that are not only pastel pink, but also heart-shaped!
This cuteness just killed me. I keeled over and died from the cuteness.
This is like the cotton pad version of unicorns.
I'm just so used to seeing clean and simple designs on these basic items that this is such a novelty for me.
I'm sure that the drug store products can do this too. It's disappointing that they won't step up and go for the GORGEOUS.
It's not like they don't have a market for cute essentials. I mean, KOTEX came out with electric pink wrap for their pads and those flew off the shelves.
*sigh*
That's it for today's essentials.
Hope you enjoyed!
xo, Pau
