Time for this month's book haul!
I got most of them from BOOKSALE. One of them is from National Bookstore.
As I've mentioned in an earlier post, I am so in love with books right now.
My Goodreads account has not seen so much activity since I set it up.
This haul is from several trips to BOOKSALE, and National Bookstore, SM North.
You can probably tell what I cheapskate I am so most of these books are less than P50.
FOLLOW THE JUMP TO SEE MY NEW BOOKS!
I've a bigger stash of books if we count from the beginning of August.
But I didn't include books that I've already read. So, all of these books are unread (for now :P ).
TIMELESS (the 5th book in the Alexia Tarabotti series) by Gail Carriger
It was on sale for 50% off of the original price of P315.00.
National Bookstore is participating in the Book Month so a lot of their books are on sale.
It's a lot more expensive than what I regularly get from BOOKSALE.
But I've been eyeing this book for a while, ever since I got into the whole Victorian mystery kick.
The Alexia Tarabotti series is set in AU (Alternate Universe) London where vampire, werewolves, and other supernaturals exist.
I actually don't recommend getting this book if you haven't already read the previous books.
I was so confused with what's going on because I've no idea what they were talking about.
I haven't read any of the previous books.
However, once you get use to it, the dialogue is so funny! The characters are very colorful as well. A lot of the elements is a work of genius.
The Good Husband of Zebra Drive (#1 Ladies' Detective Agency Series) by Alexander McCall Smith
I am most excited about this book. I've read two books from this series so far.
My BOOKSALE carries a lot of this title - aren't I the lucky bibliophile? ;)
As you can see, it only cost me P25. That's far less than what I paid for the last two books (I forgot how much but not anywhere near P25).
It tells the story of Mme Ramotswe and her Detective Agency. This is in the middle of the first book and the last book I've read (my review is here).
When I left there were two other titles on the shelf for P50 and P75. But I had set a budget for P25 that day and had to exercise sheer will power to walk away.

This is an OMNIBUS EDITION, which means that it's a two in one book.
The two stories are The Black Book and Mortal Causes by Ian Rankin.
There's an influx of Rankin novels, which are mainly mystery/detective.
I've never read him before (I'm not a big fan of modern mysteries.) so this is the first we'll meet.
It's like a first date!
Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky
I am also very excited about this book! I haven't heard of this until I picked this up in BOOKSALE.
The story of how this book came about is mind blowing.
The author wrote this at the time of Nazi occupation in France in WWII. That's bad enough, but on top of that Nemirovsky is Jewish.
The book is published posthumously. Yes, Nemirovsky didn't make it.
The Passion Dream Book by Whitney Otto
Ms. Otto has written the famous "How to write an American Quilt", which is one of my favorite movies.
Otto can clearly create romance and can write female characters.
It starts with Italian Renaissance and has started dropping names within the first few pages.
It's obviously about love but that's all I know.
The Forest People by Colin M. Turnbull
This is the most academic of them all. It's an anthropologist's chronicles as he lives within the Pygmies.
Anthropology isn't too far away from Archaeology. And, Americans would say that Archaeology is under Anthropology. My faculty doesn't think so.
We are leaning towards European framework that Archaeology belongs, in fact, to the Natural Sciences.
It has a pretty and artsy cover so I have high hopes for this.
Besides, Margaret Mead says it's good. Who would argue with her?
Everything I got from BOOKSALE is P25. And they aren't bad books for the price.
Some of them aren't in mint condition, so to speak. But there's a well-loved book has a certain charm.
Hope you enjoyed!
