I've been spending a lot of time at BOOKSALE lately. Let's say I've rediscovered my love for books and bookstores. BOOKSALE is one of my absolute favorite bookstores. I will be making a post with my favorite bookstores soon enough. :P (Yay for blog post ideas!)
This will be a "regular" monthly post for this blog.
I'll be taking pictures of interesting book finds from my BOOKSALE (SM North) haunts and posting them here.
NOTE: This is not a book haul. This is just a way for you to see what's available right now.
Remember that BOOKSALE is a second hand book thrift shop. This is where you get cheap books that are in relatively good condition.
I'm one of those book nerds who appreciate a well-loved book (Neil Gaiman is one of us!).
I really don't mind that there were previous owners. It just makes the book more precious for me. Can I be more sentimental about books?
Again, this is NOT a book haul. That would be a separate post where I will clearly indicate that I have bought the books.
Also, there's no guarantee that the books would still be available for purchase. As those who frequent BOOKSALE know, the turnover of books is pretty quick.
If you don't grab it now, it'll be gone forever.
The Illustrated History of Weaponry by Chuck Wills
P755
Even though this is one of the pricier books on the shelves, this is such a steal!
The pages are glossy high end fashion magazine quality and the pictures are amazing.
This is a must for bibliophiles, history buffs, and fanfic writers (writing on historical setting).
The Ultimate Time Team Companion by Tim Taylor
P325
If you don't know Time Team, you need to watch on YouTube where entire episodes are available for your viewing pleasure.
Time Team is a British archaeology show where they follow archaeologists on a specific dig.
The archaeologists (previously headed by Mick Ashton) have 3 days to find out what they have.
It's a great show (now defunct :( ) and this is a good documentation (for public archaeology) of their finds and adventures.
GLASS BEADS by Louise Mehaffey
P245
This is a beads crafts book for the highly creative people.
It's very informative and the instructions are easy to follow.
I love beads and I've been researching on them for a while now.
An Odyssey in Print: Adventures in the Smithsonian Libraries by Mary Augusta Thomas
P210
The cover of this book is just to die for!
It's got a lot of illustrations that book hoarders would love.
La la la... by William Baker and Kylie Minogue
P325
I have a friend who is in love with Aphrodite. And, this is just perfect for her because she goes by "Lala" LOL!
The middle picture is the inside cover art and it is just gorgeous.
Bombers: Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircraft 1914-1919 by Kenneth Munson
P245
A friend and I are obsessed with Band of Brothers. Naturally, this overflowed into everything WWII related.
This is WWI but this is great background reading.
Look at these full colored illustrations! They are a work of art.
FIND OF THE MONTH!!!
RAMAYANA: DIVINE LOOPHOLE by Sanjay Patel
P325
OMG, you guys! The artwork in here is phenomenal.
It's like RAMAYANA told through Samurai Jack and the Powerpuff Girls.
It's simply delectable. It's made as a coffee table book with glossy pages and many many pages of illustration.
You cannot go wrong with this! This is a must have for any book lover!!!
As a finale, here's a bit of tip when shopping at BOOKSALE!
It is very rare for any BOOKSALE to have so much books by an author (except if it's Daniel Steele, Robert Ludlum, etc.)
Gail Tsukiyama has 7 books out and BOOKSALE had three of them. It's highly likely that these were published by the same house.
As you can see, all three books retail for P145 each.
Continued browsing through BOOKSALE gave me a chance to find another copy of the same book.
The right one is slightly less pristine than the left.
However, we can argue that they are the same book.
Notice the huge discrepancy between their prices.
I can get the exact same book for P25!!!
So book lovers, you need to be patient and diligent when shopping at BOOKSALE.
You never know what book's hiding underneath.
Hope you enjoyed!
xo, Pau
