It's too bad that my tropical country doesn't have a spring cleaning tradition. I guess this is because most Filipinos likes to keep their houses clean 24/7. My brother's yaya (previously, my yaya) loves to clean our house. She tried to teach me at some point in my childhood but I was simply too lazy or distracted by other fun stuff to pay attention. Needless to say, I am not so great at keeping house. I just find it so daunting...
As I was going through pinterest.com, I stumbled upon this great way to get yourself to do chores around the house (not restricted to just spring). This is a great idea for people, like me, who could never find the time for a one big spring cleaning activity.
Follow the jump for the CLEANING CALENDAR!!!
A cleaning calendar is just a list of what you need to clean everyday. I'm sure that a lot of you know about them, or had been doing something like those (maybe, without a list). Because I'm no cleaning expert, I didn't really realize that you don't have to clean everything every single day. According to Reader's Digest, experts believe that there's really only a handful of things that requires everyday maintenance, and some things for twice a week, then something every month, etc. What you need to do is to find out what things that you should clean per day, per week, and per month. You should write them down then figure out how it can fit into your schedule. Let's try it!
I'm going to make a DAILY LIST, just like the cleaning calendar above. It's very important that you should tailor-fit your cleaning calendar according to your lifestyle. I work two jobs: full-time and part-time work and that is reflected below. Of course, I need a bit of down-time so I'm only cleaning one day out of the weekends.
My Schedule:
Morning - before full-time work
Evening - after full-time work, before part-time work
Weekend (Saturday OR Sunday)
Notice that I do not have a monthly chore list nor a chore of the day. There's just no time for that and it could be overwhelming. The goal is to make the list as short as possible.
That's as good as it will ever get. Anything I can't do would be for housemate :)
I hope this post helps you out in some way.
x, Pau
