I am a night owl. No kidding. I don't know how others do it, but I have such a hard time going to sleep! Whenever I do good and sleep early (think: midnight!), I notice such a big difference when I wake-up. I have a lot of extra energy, without drinking massive amounts of coffee (I'm addicted to this too. Plus, sweets for sugar rush. And Mountain Dew!). My massive eye bags also look tamer!
I know that I need to sleep better. This post is a list of some tips for going to sleep faster.
❣ FOLLOW THE JUMP FOR MY SLEEPY-TIME ROUTINE!!! ❣
1) CALM YOUR MIND
This bed says it all! A lot of sleepy-time tips include not thinking about stressful things.
There's truth to that, of course. But I find that I need to go over my day - both good and bad.
It's like bed time is when I have to give my day a sort of WRAP-UP and FEEDBACK combo.
This also gives me good practice on thinking positive, especially for bad stuff.
When you're thinking of stressful things, try to find a way to resolve it in your head.
Accept the things that you could not change, find a good place for your heart, and keep your head together.
Stress goes away pretty soon, and this calm helps me get to bed.

2) WEAR COMFY CLOTHES
I could never fall asleep with anything too tight. So, props for girls who could sleep in their bra.
I like wearing super loose sleeveless tops and tiny sleep shorts.
That's my go-to comfy clothes. Naturally, they are totally inappropriate for anything but sleepy time.
When I was living in the dorms, I used to wear HUGE shirts instead of tops.
But my new apartment is too warm for that.
I haven't tried sleeping in the boyfriend's shirt :P

3) STAY AWAY FROM DISTRACTIONS
Everybody sleeps with their phones beside them. I do too. But I would put it a bit away so that I wouldn't see it and get distracted.
I could never sleep with too much clutter around me (unless I'm too tired to clean up).
Here's a trick: when I was doing my thesis, with my mind always on the go but my eyes were too tired to work, I would shove all my books and papers under my bed!
That way, I wouldn't get the urge to grab them and start reading, etc.
This sleeping princess is really under a spell if she could sleep with all the foliage around her lol.

4) PUT ON THE MASK
I found a lot of tips about sleeping in total darkness or total silence.
I have to take into account that I live in a city that doesn't seem to know what sleep means so I always have lights outside my window.
For me, I do turn my lights off but I always wear a sleeping mask.
There was a time when I totally needed a mask every night.
But I weaned myself out of that, just in case I find myself without one.
For total silence, I prefer white noise over total silence.
I've been to fieldwork in the middle of nowhere. It was too creepy. I know that total silence isn't me.

5) HOT RELAXING TEA
Hmm... I love my warm chamomile tea. I need to always have some sleepy time tea before bed time.
I cannot tell you how great tea is for you! Plus, it's really therapeutic. It helps busy minds calm down.
Nowadays, I've pushed my workout at night. I finish just an hour bit before bed. My body is super energized after the work out that I need something to calm myself down.

❣
This list doesn't always work. There are nights were I really cannot sleep even if I know nothing is bothering me.
You see, sleepless nights can always be brought by PMS. When this happens, I just pop a midol before bed. It usually helps.
❣
You need to learn about your body and see what works for you.
❣
Have a good night...
❣
x, Pau
