It comes as unexpected as a sunny day in the rainy season.
But unlike the welcoming sunlight,
Blogger's Block stays until you kick it unceremoniously out the window.
Here are my tips to taking a wrecking ball to that Blogger's Block.
All bloggers at some point have had this happen to them.
Having had Blogger's Block twice on this blog alone,
I've learned to accept that these things do happen.
Instead of wallowing with a blank post page in front of me,
I've learned to be more pro-active.
If and when you have/get blogger's block,
here are some tips that you can try.
TIP 1 : Stimulate Your Mind
Start by closing your empty post and open a new browser.
Take your mind off your Blogger's Block and concentrate on finding the things you love.
The internet is a fantastic place to unwind.
You can read your favorite blogs or even find new blogs through follow.
Get an account in bloglovin. It's a great place to check out new blogs.
There's also communities of bloggers on twitter. I find great bloggers on there.
You can peruse youtube. As a beauty blogger, I keep updated with trends from the youtube beauty community.
If you like art, you can through pinterest, tumblr or deviant art.
You never know what would inspire you!
TIP 2 : Keep an Idea Journal
When I was at school, taking notes helped me learn better.
There's nothing like writing your ideas down before they disappear into thin air.
Taking notes could sound boring... but it doesn't need to be!
You can make your Idea Journal your own by adding drawings,
writing with different colored pens/pencils.
You can even make one online. I like using Google Keep.
It's a free app that keeps lists, notes, etc. that you can customize with different colors.
You can even slice it up into sections like "All Things Beauty", "New Make-Up Finds", "Skin Care Tips", and so on.
TIP 3 : Change It UP
Your writing environment can also affect your writing moods.
If you're used to typing in bed, maybe it's time to get a work station together.
Just clear out a small space on your desk or vanity (like me) and write there.
If you're already on a work station, you try organizing your desk.
It could be as simple as placing your favorite flowers on your desk.
You can also try moving to a new spot on your desk. I've recently moved my desk to another space in my house and it was magical.
It's like I've moved to an entirely new apartment.
You can even do it for your laptop. Changing your wallpaper makes a ton of difference.
If you've tried all of the above, you can also re-do your blog.
I constantly change my blog's look to keep it fresh.
TIP 4 : Go OUT!
Nothing has worked so far?
You can try going out! Take a good long walk around the mall, your city or your neighborhood.
For me, there are times when this is the only way that I can clear my head and start anew.
This is also the chance to get some exercise. As I've learned from "Legally Blonde", exercise produces endorphin. It makes you happy.
Happy people are full of great ideas and write better/more.
TIP 5 : Have a Break, HAVE A KIT-KAT
If you're lucky, your writer's block is only a few happy munches of sweeties away from breaking.
Take a deep breath, sit down on your favorite seat, grab a cup of your favorite warm drink, and munch on anything chocolate.
Times like these, I grab my favorite dark Kit-Kat and have a quiet sit-down.
When I'm tired and frustrated with my blogger's block, Kit-Kat gives me a boost to get back in front of my laptop.
REMEMBER
You should also take the time to figure out why you have writer's block.
Each blogger would have his/her unique reason for getting it.
What you would really need is to have the confidence in yourself to write.
Being sure of yourself as a writer or blogger is a very big part of being able to continually write good content.
Ask yourself questions why you've started writing, where you are right now, and why you want to continue to write.
Those are some of the things I think about when I'm on a down-time with a Kit-Kat bar.
I tell myself: You are a good blogger. Keep on writing.
After a Kit-Kat break, I unlock the skill of CREATIVE THINKING so I can beat my blogger's block.
Hope this list helps!
xo, Pau
