My nail care routine!
It's important to take care of your nails, especially if you're a nail polish lover (like me)!
Poor nail care could lead to brittle unhealthy nails :(
You won't be able to wear your nails long, in that case :( :(
And, the world ends! LOL jk
NAIL CARE or MANICURE KIT
Assemble or purchase a prepared Nail Care Kit or Manicure Kit.
My current nail care kit is from WATSONS. It's a gift so I'm not sure how much it is.
It has everything you need to properly care for your nails!
NAIL BUFFER
This is something that not all kits have. You can purchase one separately, of course.
Although, nail buffers can be expensive.
Having a nail buffer would make your nail beds shiny and "healthy" looking.
A Nail Buffer has three sides: a white, a pink, and a gray side.
NAIL FILE
A Nail File is pretty common in kits. You use to file your nails to your desired shape.
NAIL FILES come in different shapes and colors. The one thing they have in common is that they are very abrasive.
TIP:
Keep them handy for chipped nails!
You have to file down chipped nails at where they are chipping.
This will prevent further chipping and it smoothens the edges so they won't caught on things.
NAIL CLIPPERS
Nail Clippers are pretty common too. You can purchase super cheap ones or more expensive hard-core ones.
I have a regular medium sized nail clippers here that I use only for my fingernails.
I use a bigger nail clipper for my toenails.
Note:
There's a pair of tweezers in there. But I don't use them.

Some kits would include a nipper but I don't recommend this if you don't how to use it.
Leave that for the professionals ;)
--------------------------
STEP 1
Start with clean nails. Remove all traces of polish.
If you're wearing glitter polish, check out my TIP for removing stubborn glitter polish (without scrubbing!) HERE.
My nail beds have yellow stains from wearing polish all the time.
Because my nails are still pretty hard, I don't bother with them.
STEP 2:
Cut your nails down to your desired length.
As you can see, my nail tips are jagged.
STEP 3:
File your nails.
Don't file down. Just smooth out the nail tips as well as shape them.
STEP 4:
Use the nail buffer!
Use the PINK side first. Rub the PINK side about 10 times on your nail bed.
The PINK side is very abrasive and should be used sparingly.
Use the WHITE side next to make them matte.
Use the GRAY side last to give them a bit of shine.
You have prepped nails! Yay!
You can stop there or go to the next step :)
STEP 5:
Use a BASE COAT and NAIL HARDENER.
I highly encourage the use of a good base coat and a nail hardener.
The CARONIA NAIL HARDENER and BASE COAT does both in one product!
This is a decent base coat that does great things:
1) helps you apply polish (makes your nail beds even)
1) helps you apply polish (makes your nail beds even)
2) hardens your nails
3) makes your polish last longer
Regular clear polish just doesn't do it for me.
I always apply the CARONIA NAIL HARDENER and BASE COAT at the end of a nail prep, regardless if I'm putting polish or not.
It just makes the nails so shiny!
Here's what my nails look like after a manicure.
GOOD LUCK!
xo, Pau
